What is Scouting?
Cub Scouting is a year-round, family-oriented program designed for both boys and girls, ranging in age from 6-10 years (or Kindergarten through 5th grades).
In Scouting, we emphasize character development, good citizenship, community service, sportsmanship and fitness, respectful relationships, personal achievement, and most importantly, fun and adventure. We do this by teaching the Scouts to live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all time; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. |
Scout Law:
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal
helpful, friendly, courteous, kind obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. |

What to Expect:
We want you to feel welcome and informed when you join our pack so we have put together this list of common meetings and events. For more information, check out our Parent Corner.
Pack Meetings
Once a month, we come together for a Pack Meeting, where all Cub Scouts and their families are encouraged to attend. The Pack Meeting often allows us to present the Scouts with their adventure loops/pins and rank awards that they have earned. Pack Meetings can be a fun time where dens show off the projects they have been working on, lead songs, or perform skits. It is also a time for the family to get information on upcoming activities and share in the Scouting spirit. We encourage Scouts to wear their "Class A" uniform to Pack Meetings.
Den Meetings
Dens are groups of Scouts of the same age/grade level (preferably no more than eight Scouts/Den). Den Meetings are held up to three times a month (exact frequency and date/time is dependent on the specific Den). At these meetings, the Den Leader provides the Scouts with opportunities to enjoy various planned activities, learn new skills, and have great fun. With the exception of Lions and Tigers Den Meetings, parental attendance is not required, but is certainly encouraged! Some Dens will require parent participation at specific meetings. Please keep in touch with your Scout's Den Leader so that you will know what activities are taking place and can track the progress your Scout is making.
Overnight Camp Outs
Scouting is an outdoor-based program. Camping is permitted by Cub Scouts only in an age-appropriate context. Scouts must have an adult family member with them at all times when family camping. Bring all the equipment you will need to enjoy the camp-out: tent, sleeping bags, lanterns, bug spray, etc. The pack often provides the main meals. In the event of an overnight, your child can only tent with another child of the same age (within two-years), same gender, and with permission of that Scout’s parent(s) or guardian(s) and the Cubmaster. We understand that not every Scout will want to spend the night, and Scouts are encouraged to join us, even if only for the daytime activities of a Family Camp-out.
Fundraising
Every year the Pack participates in the Scout Popcorn sale. The campaign runs from August through October, with deliveries in November. This has historically been the only fundraising activity at the Pack level. All Scouts that participate in this event receive prizes and other recognition. The Pack relies heavily on the funds generated by this fundraiser. Everyone’s participation is appreciated. The pack retains 34% of the proceeds of the product sold and is THE source of funding for all Pack activities. For more information on popcorn, check our our Parent's Corner.
Pumpkin Derby
In recent years at our October Pack meeting, we've enjoyed something called Pumpkin Derby. The rules are simple: make your pumpkin roll and have fun! It's a great time to get creative and enjoy the fall here in Ohio. For more information, check our our Parent's Corner.
Pinewood Derby
The pinewood derby is THE most popular and successful family activity in Cub Scouting. Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that Cub Scouts make with help from their families. Then they race the cars in a competition which includes prizes for speed and design creativity. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a track. The Pack provides the kits along with rules and instruction for design and competition. The race is often scheduled as our February or March Pack Meeting.
Blue & Gold
Each year, Cub Scouts celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the BSA, on February 8, 1910, by having a Blue and Gold Banquet. The Cub Scout Birthday Party has been typically held in early March or April, to coincide with timing for Graduation of Arrow of Light Scouts.
Graduation
For our 2nd year Webelos (also known as the Arrow of Light Webelos), the final night of being a Cub Scout has typically been at our Blue and Gold celebration. At that time, they will be invited by the Scoutmaster to join a scouts BSA Troop in a “crossing-over” ceremony. The entire family, including grandparents and other special guests are encouraged to attend. Scouts MUST wear their full Class A uniform. All other Cub Scouts often attend a graduation ceremony in June to mark the completion of their experience in that years' grade and graduate into the next year. Earning rank advancement, relative to each school grade is not required (eg- Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, etc.), but is encouraged. A Scout works at their own pace at home or during Den & Pack outings and meetings, under the supervision and guidance of a caring adult and in coordination with the Den leader. Adventure completion is entered into Scoutbook by the Den Leader (or other Pack Admin).
